Breakdown and Analysis: Boys Varsity Soccer (10/20/13)

The Bobcats were unable to overcome a very
physical Glastonbury team on Friday. Going through
a rebuilding year, the boys have been able to hang
around .500 and may be able to squeak into the
                                         state tournament.

Heading into late October, the Boys Varsity Soccer team looks pretty good. When they're winning the boys are scoring at least two goals and they look strong. However, they are going through a "semi-rebuild" mode graduating key players from last years team and have been shutout a few times this year. They held their own in a 3-1 loss to a very physical Glastonbury on Friday.

It would be ideal if the team can hang around above the .500 mark with the season winding down in order to sneak into the state tournament. With the players they have on the field this is not impossible. Noah Kennedy has played great defense this year, a star on that side of the field. Tyler Sarra has shot the ball well, and Mike Tarascio has been the team's ultimate all-around player. Though the Bobcats may not seem like an elite contender as of now, they can definitely make a late push with time running short, and they definitely have talent they can build on come next year.

Breakdown and Analysis: Girls Varsity Volleyball (10/20/13)

The Varsity Girls' Volleyball team has been able
to bring down tough opponents this year,
possibly foreshadowing a strong CCC tournament
                                          campaign.

Wins have been coming in bunches for the girls' varsity volleyball team. Entering their 'Dig Pink' match against Farmington, the teams' record was a dazzling 13-2. In each of those 13 wins, the girls have turned in nothing but domination against their opponents. This is a justified statement considering that 9 of their 13 wins (that's 69%) have been shutouts, and not all of these wins have come against pushover teams. The Bobcats have also played the underdog this year, coming back from a 2-0 deficit on September 27 to win the match 3-2. This team does not lose much, which of course is ideal when competing in a tournament.

In addition to skill, the Bobcats this year have had an overwhelming presence of a will to win on their side. Their 13 wins, 9 shutouts, and 1 come-from-behind wins, are proof of this, yet it even seems to be there on losing nights. The team has not been shutout yet this year, and the 'Cats were able to keep it close on Wednesday, while going down at the hands of Glastonbury 3-2. In terms of facing the tougher teams, South Windsor has matched up rather evenly against the hard teams as far as hustle and skill goes. With their overpowering skill and scrappy play style, the Bobcats are for real; they're a scary contender.

Breakdown and Analysis: Girls Varsity Soccer (10/7/13)

The Bobcats took a loss from an undefeated Hall
High on October 4, by a score of 2-0. It was the
first time this year where the "Cats have been
shutout. Though they lost to an undefeated
opponent, it is likely that they will have to win at
some point against a team like Hall.

There has been several flares of perfection in the Girls Varsity Soccer Team. With a record of 5-3-1, it is possible that they can contend for the championship when the season winds down. When breaking down the Bobcat's five wins, the performances could justify that they are more than a decent team.

The Bobcats scored at least three goals in four of their five wins this year, though they have had trouble winning when scoring any less than that. But when given the opportunity, the 'Cats have scored up to five/six goals (five against Weaver on Sept 16 and six against East Hartford on Oct 1). They've also shown shades of solid defensive efforts throughout the fall. When victorious the Bobcats have only surrendered one goal for each win, and have shutout their opponent three times this year (Weaver, Wethersfield, and East Hartford).

The team as a whole has shown excellence on the stat sheet. As a team they have well over ten assists, and have twenty two overall goals. The Bobcats also possess some star power. Becca Karlins has once again established herself as the team's main scorer with a total of six on the year, and is capable of posting multi-goal games. Auna Harvey has been a great distributor, leading the team with four assists. There is a variety of combo players offensively in addition to Karlins and Harvey. Lauren Biancardi, Dani Karpiej, and Sam Faust can all score as well as see the field well in terms of assisting.

This is a team that can play defense and a team that can score at will. If they can continue to do this consistently, the stats will continue to increase and they can be a legit competitor when everything comes down to the wire.

Introduction to Bobcats Sports Blog

SWHS Students and Staff-

Welcome to the new South Windsor High School Sports Blog. Here you will be able to access coverage of all the sports that go on throughout the 2013-2014 school year. The blog as of now covers the current fall sports complete with our teams' records, results, stats and highlights. I hope to later complete the blog content with a weekly article and analysis along with a photo of any of the active teams.

Despite the positive potential this blog can do for our school, it is still in its early stage and is missing content. Furthermore I ask all of you as the viewers to frequently leave comments in order to help improve the blog (or if you have any questions/concerns).  I also apologize that there are teams missing from the blog right now and if there are any inaccuracies. As I get more information I should be able to resolve these problems.  If the blog improves we can truly support our teams and fellow classmates as they dedicate hard work and effort in order to bring title after title from their respected sports to SWHS. As the year progresses please bear with me, and I promise to present to you the best content that I am capable of obtaining.

Thank you, and best of luck to all of our athletes. Go Bobcats!

- Vincent Gallo
