Boys/Girls Season in Review (Entry: 10/17/14)
Bobcat pride has once again been established within soccer as the season turns into the home stretch.
At 8-4-1 the boys look sturdy. The season opening victory against RHAM, a significant opponent from last year, was a 3-2 win that set a positive tone.
At times it has been difficult for the 'Cats to find their offensive flow, as they have failed to score a goal in five contests this year. Nevertheless, they've attacked the offensive task as a team as their 26 goals are the work of thirteen different players.
Their defense this year has been a big part of their winning identity, holding their opponent scoreless in five games, and only surrendering thirteen goals. With this type of play the boys have been able to keep pace with their opponent in each game, giving their offense a chance to capitalize. Nick Heckt is a player to watch down the stretch. The junior leads the Bobcats in goals with six and isn't afraid to attack the opposition's net.
Along with their male counterparts, the lady Bobcats are also a force to be reckoned with; their record standing at 10-1-2. Opponents have been able to hold them close as of late, and the team has recently lost senior Colleen Bouquot to injury. But the 'Cats have dominated in their ten games won and have a young, athletic team that is difficult to beat when they work efficiently as a unit. They've held their opponents with stellar team defense. Goalie Hanna Basile has made an exceptional impact, after missing last year with a hip injury, tallying a total of 62 saves.
On the offensive side however, the Bobcats can be devastating. Becca Russo has been a great scoring option, finding the net eight times this year. Russo's scoring has been accompanied by Sam Faust. The speedy sophomore leads the team and school in goals with nine and has passed off for two assists. After making varsity as a freshman Faust has adjusted well to the competition, proving that she take over a game offensively, scoring four goals in one game twice. Though Faust isn't the only underclassman bringing the thunder. Osheonna Israel has scored well this year, piling on four goals, and Skyler Douglas has distributed the ball exceptionally, responsible for five of the team's 25 assists.
The seniors on the team have made the most of their final year as well. Dani Karpiej has duplicated her successful junior year with quality stats, and Amy McConnell has made an impact after missing last year with an ACL injury, turning in an all-around offensive performance (4 goals, 6 assists). After losing to Glastonbury in quarters last year on a power kick this team has reloaded.
