South Windsor High School Athletes of the Year (2013-14)

*Please note that this list is not made to exclude any athletes and their accomplishments that are not listed. This list only features the athletes in which I was able to get the most quality information on throughout the year.

Soccer

Kat Comeau: Although her soccer career ended after this year due to injuries, Comeau will be remember as one of the greatest soccer players and leaders that came through the school in the 2010s. She compliments this honor with titles of an All-State and All-Conference player for her senior year. This year she led the offensive charge with 6 goals, 2 assists, and 3 goals in the playoffs.

Becca Karlins: Alongside Kat Comeau, Becca Karlins was another strong leader in girls soccer as well as another strong offensive option for the Bobcats. Offensively she was an all around player, with 10 goals (2nd in the school) and 4 assists. She finished her senior year as an All-Conference player.

Dani Karpiej: Girls soccer lost many quality players this summer to graduation, but Dani Karpiej may be able to help bring another strong run in soccer next fall. As a senior next year Karpiej has a chance to be a great leader for a fairly young soccer team. With this being said she heads into 2014 with much hype. An All-Conference player this year Karpiej finished with 7 goals, 3 assists and 1 goal in the playoffs.

Auna Harvey: Harvey will be another leader that will be missed next year. An All-Conference player, she was one of the players the Bobcats had that scanned the field very well, ending the year with 4 assists.

Becca Russo: All-Conference player for 2013, one of the many leaders in South Windsor soccer.

Cross Country

Michael Stoker: Stoker is on track of spinning together a great career as a runner at this school. If running 154 laps on the Pacer Test (the new school record) isn't enough to sell you then you can look at his achievements for this year alone:
-Sept. 10 Meet: Top 5 Finisher
-Haddad Invitational: 15th place
-Sept. 17  Nevers four-way meet: 1st place finish
-Sept. 24 Top 5 Finisher
-Harry Geraghty Invitational Large School Varsity: 1st place
-Wickham Invitational Top 5 Runner
-Class L State Championship: 12th place

Ethan Gasta: Gasta was a top 10 finisher six times this year.

Kenny Erikson: Erikson completed a top 10 finish five times this year.

Cooper Goslin: Goslin was a top ten finisher in five meets this year.

Kait Bakas: Bakas was selected for the 2013 All-Conference team, and has been a consistent above average runner throughout her high school career.

Katie Zalaski: Zalaski was another All-Conference runner, and like Bakas has been a strong runner throughout her time at the high school.

Megan McAndrew: McAndrew still has two more years to dominate as a runner. The now junior was selected as an All-Conference runner.

Field Hockey

Rebecca Schroder: South Windsor field hockey has been complimented with many players finishing with great seasons this year, but Rebecca Schroder had a season to remember. She earned a spot on the First All-State Team; and as far as stats go she chipped in with 3 goals this year and turned in a great year passing to her teammates, walking away with 5 assists.

Bridget Kelly: The 2013 All-Conference player had a well rounded year statistically, finishing with 4 goals and 3 assists.

Kat Adamo: Adamo's year closely resembled her teammate Bridget Kelly's. The All-Conference player finished the year with 4 goals and 4 assists.

Football

James Nyarko: South Windsor Football finished another trying season this year, but one of their most electric players this year was senior running back James Nyarko. Nyarko was what made the offense go this year, and was a productive option to turn to when faced with 3rd down. His speed and strength could slice through the opposition's defense if passing was ever ineffective.

Basketball

Olivia Boldin: The girls basketball team will miss Boldin's activity on the glass next year, as the senior's rebounding effectiveness was a big factor in reeling in the basketball and getting South Windsor basketball all the way to Mohegan Sun.

Christina Rozie: Rozie was the devastating scoring force the Bobcats needed to get to states. She was able to help fill the void offensively with star players Amy McConnell and Kaitlin LaBonte out with torn ACLs.

The Karlins Twins: Alyssa and Stephanie Karlins together were a terror for JV oppositions to deal with this year. Their sister Becca was a quality defender off the varsity bench but these two can score. Both members of the offensive duo are a threat to fill the basket with a handful of points each. Next year they have a chance to make varsity and join McConnell and company as they once again will target another appearance in states.

Track

Mimi Otaluka: Otaluka is due to gain the title as yet another great runner that came through South Windsor High School as she heads into senior year. As an indoor track runner this year she earned the title Most Outstanding Athlete at the Jack Long Invitational and finished in 2nd place in the 55m dash and 300m dash. As an outdoor runner she worked past a nagging hamstring and earned a 2nd place finish in the 400m dash and turned in a 58.73 second run at the State Open Championship in the 400m dash which was good for a 6th place finish.

Kait Bakas: Bakas backed up her strong cross country season with a gem performance as a track runner. She earned a 2nd place finish in the Mile run and finished 1st in the 800m dash. At the State Open Championships Bakas finished in 5:06 a new school record.

Swimming

Pat Savidge: As a senior this past year, Pat continued the traditional Savidge Family reign of dominance in the pool. Savidge was able to place 1st in a 200IM and 1st in a 100 Breaststroke. Savidge again took 1st in the 100 Breaststroke during the Class L Finals and a 2nd place finish in the Finals 200IM. He delivered big in the CT Opens Swimming Championships, taking first in the 100 Breaststroke (Time: 57.77) and fourth in the 200IM (Time:1:51.57). To top off his high school career he finished the year as the Class L MVP.

Wrestling

Conor Caffrey: A 2013 Class L Champion title was able to cap of Caffrey's dominating career of greatness as a wrestler for South Windsor High.

Tennis

Boisvert and Skenyon: Stephanie Boisvert and Sabrina Skenyon were near unstoppable as a doubles duo; recording a flawless 17-0 record and reaching the 2014 Yale Tournament together this year, concluding their era of dominance on the court.

Golf

Jack Buccigross: The freshman golfer turned in an impressive 2014 debut. Buccigross shot a 39 against Manchester this year and received a medalist honor for shooting a 42. With three years to go, he looks to improve even further and become one of the school's lethal weapons on the course.

Softball

Peyton Silverman: Silverman is on pace to be the town's next Allyson Fournier. The going on junior is such a force of the field that she has already been recruited to play college softball. To say she is dominant on both sides of the ball as a pitcher and hitter may be an understatement if she continues to improve. Silverman has a great chance of attaining the position of the softball team's best player.
